Saturn

from Rhea

1972

Bonestell known for his artistic approach on massive planetary bodies would create a captivating and colossal perspective of the true nature of these titans. Saturn, the second largest planet in the solar system is famously known for its enormous glacial ring that orbits its axis. This piece was commissioned for a book called Beyond Jupiter: The Worlds of Tomorrow, written by Arthur C. Clark, who is best known for writing, 2001: a Space Odyssey. Bonestell captures the sheer mass of the planet from the perspective from one of its moons, named Rhea. The simplistic yet encapsulating scene shows Bonestell's message of how these gigantic planets exist up in the stars yet we know so little about them
