Saturn

From Titan

(1944)

One of Bonestell's first pieces of as an artist starting on a relatively new category of art; Astronomical Art. Here he depicts the scale and detail of a reality beyond our limits, Saturn from its moon Titan. During this time, most knowledge about space was limited and even the general public had no exposure to images of space and planets prior to modern space photography, however through Bonestell's works such as this one, many began to foster a curiosity towards space and astronomy as they were introduced to a new frontier of space. With Saturn being a particular favorite subject for Bonestell he would recreate this same image multiple times, each time improving and adding a new light to the piece. This was the beginning of a revolutionary spark of interest into the Space Age.
