The Comet

(1981)

In a change from his ultra-realistic style, one of Bonestell's later works called, The Comet, depicts the marvel of a young boy who gazes upon the sky to see a fiery comet blazing and illuminating the clouds above. Here Bonestell adopts a more animated approach to the dazzling aspects of space and shows the power and speed of the comet streaming by as a young child stands in reverence to the spectacle of space. Bonestell captures that sense of excitement and curiosity in how incredible it is to discover space for the first time as when we were children, with that urge to learn more about such an abstract phenomenon. Taking us back to a simpler time  from when we were learning from our imagination.
